Nick Ventri and Zoe Davis run Portland’s Belle Weddings as siblings. Both are unsatisfied and burned out working for the firm, believing they are nannies to a succession of affluent and demanding arrogant jerks rather than providing amazing weddings for married people.

Zoe was considering a short trip to Romance, Oregon, a two-hour drive away, when she hears from her mother Celeste Davis that Zoe’s father, Richard Davis, fractured his leg, leaving their café understaffed. When Zoe arrives home, she learns Celeste has already hired Will Mason, Zoe’s ex-boyfriend who just returned from Seattle and plans to open a cafe in Love.

Will and Zoe broke up after Zoe moved away; Will wanted to live in Romance, while Zoe wanted city life. Will and Zoe’s reunion is cordial, but things turn sour when Zoe decides to return to Romance and build Belle Weddings by buying the Mason farm, which has been on the market for a year. Will, a futuristic restaurant that uses locally grown food, criticises the commercialization of farming.

Many Romance residents agree with this stance; they don’t want Zoe to change Romance. Some others hold past grudges, such as Will, Amanda Hines, and Zoe’s former schoolmate and bakery owner, who has always disliked Zoe and much more so now because she crushed Will’s heart. Nick’s visit to Romance complicates Zoe’s career ambitions, as do her feelings for Will.
